There are number of decisions the Guardianship of Adults Act 2016 say guardians are not allowed to make.

As a guardian you are not allowed to:

  • Vote for an adult
  • change an adults will
  • go to court for the adult
  • agree to ‘restricted’ health care decisions on behalf of the adult
  • make decisions about the adult’s children
  • make decisions about the adult’s personal relationships such as who they marry or divorce.
