The Office of the Public Guardian operates between 8.00am and 4.21pm weekdays. We also provide an after-hours service to enable urgent (usually medical) decisions to be made on behalf of represented persons where the Public Guardian is appointed. We have recently undertaken a review of the after-hours service and as a result a change in hours will be implemented.

As of the 13th of October the after-hours service will operate for urgent decisions:

Monday to Friday                                        4.21pm to 10.00pm

Weekends and Public Holidays               8.00am to 10.00pm

If contact is made with the Office of the Public Guardian between 10.00pm and 8.00am, either by email or phone message, the delegated Adult Guardianship Officer will receive this information the next working day and respond at that time.

Importantly, this service will continue to operate alongside existing legislation that enables medical treatment to be provided in cases of emergency. We will continue to closely monitor and evaluate the after-hours service over the next 12 months.
